Chewing nicotine gum even if I have never smoked?

My lips have never touched a cigarette. I got a sample of nicorette gum (30 pc) in the mail, is it safe to chew on it even if i have never smoked, ive already chewed one piece and it taste like regular gum, im not going to buy any, but i dont want to throw it out either
