Is it ok to smoke one cigarrette a day while you are trien to quite smoking completely?

Ok so, my doctor told me its ok to smoke one cig a day to ween myself off of them completely by the end of two weeks. He said that quiting cold turkey could put my baby into shock from the withdrawal and make me miscarry.. has anyone heard this before? what do yall think? i dont want my baby to be in danger i just want to do the right thing
